The Hansard Society reported that in the last year only 12% of people contacted a councillor and only 9% of people responded to consultations. This results in a bias form of governance where those that shout loudest get the most - which is what the election of 63 Councillor's is meant to be protective against. Yet in Brent we have a cabal attacking vulnerable and marginalised groups of people who are unable to engage with these sorts of political processes. <br /><br />The word 'saved' above the columns is particularly galling as it is not money 'saved', as it will 'cost' (although I reject this term) other public services in the long term.<br /><br />Of course, 'cost' is an almost-Orwellian euphemism for pain that already marginalised people will be feeling. Yet causing pain is Labour Policy (Barry Gardiner cast his vote for more cuts the other week) and the councillors are just 'following orders'.
