    1. Depends on the demographics of the borough, brent labour party, and London region labour party. People of no colour are a minority in Brent, and people of the local and global majorities involved in these processes. The replacement candidates also seem to be people of the global majority, unless we know differently. It might be considered actually racist though to believe people of a certain background should have the same politics

    2. "People of no colour"? You mean invisible people? People who are not seen by Brent Labour - mainly white home owners / owner occupiers.

    3. "People of no colour" is a very offensive term - just because you are not BAME or part of the global majority it does not mean you are not from a very diverse family background.

Everyone should be treated equally and you should not assume what others believe.

    1. Yes, used something else, but for obvious reason. Plus to hand the Deputy Mayor position to someone else.

  6. Who cares? They were complicit in the neglect of Brent just like all the other Labour councillors and voted like muppets for the Butt destruction of Brent - dirty streets, street drinking, traffic jams, tall tower blocks, high Council Tax and everything else that makes our lives in Brent more difficult and unpleasant.

  7. I can see the new selection of councillors is also diverse, most BAME residents probably don’t care who is put forward, they just want people to get on and DO THE JOB which unfortunately this current council has failed to do. If these councillors have been using their seat in local government to bring up international issues, then surely it is right for other people to be given a chance.

  8. The Tories were the main reason is in such a mess.

  9. NOTE RE COMMENTS. Because comments go into a queue for moderation when responding it is best to quote the date and time of the comment you are responding to. Otherwise two or 3 comments word such as 'So what!' appear random and not connected to anything that has gone before. Thank you.

  10. I presume that the word "Bent" or 'Brent' is the missing word above between 'reason' and 'is'.

While the incompetent Tories have a lot to answer for. We had a Labour Mayor of London and a Labour run Brent Council for many years and Labour Councillors promised us that "things would get better under a Labour Government".

Sadly after 14 months of a Labour Government we have sleaze, rising cost of living, rising unemployment, rising homelessness, rising taxes and very little difference between a Tory or Labour Government.

  11. I am just catching up with local news after a short break.

Without naming names, I am surprised to see some of the councillors who have been de-selected, and just as surprised at some of the others who have not been!

You have to wonder at the thinking (or prejudice?) of those in Starmer's (formerly Labour) Party behind this process.

  12. How do we find out the reasons why they were actually deselected?

  13. Re 6th Sept 10.36. I am not sure that even they have told 'officially' but if they have perhaps they will respond here.

  14. I think we know why Diana Collymore was deselected. Her behaviour when using her Council position to get off a parking ticket and attacking the traffic warden was a disgrace. Labour should have expelled her for her actions instead they reinstated her at the same time they suspended Kathy Frasier. So it is actually 9 and not 8 they effectively deselected.

    1. Poorly performing right wingers, however, who were democratically deselected ahead of council elections in 2022, have been reinstated – sometimes in safe seats. - who?

  16. Surely they would have to be told officially the reasons why?

    1. They have to ask in the hope of getting the reasoning.

    2. I expect that many people applied to be Councillors because of the allowances. There are 57 slots and if many more people apply some will miss out. The candidates could name their preferred wards. They could just be told "sorry there were more and better applicants than you for the ward you wanted" - end of story.

Some will claim that the Labour process was undemocratic. BUT we know that some would be Councillors used their money to persuade their friends to join the Party just in time to vote for them in ward selection meetings. 'Packing of selection meetings' has been going on in the Labour Party for decades as money talks. No system is perfect and what ever the result there will always be some who will complain.

The Labour Party is so factional that had Corbyn been in charge it would probably be the "right wingers" who would have been chopped.

It's probably best to end the so called "Broad Church" and have a clear break between the Left & Right within Labour.

  17. "because of the allowances" - I wouldn't be too sure, just take a look at some of the new selections' job descriptions and it may give some sort of inkling with regards to the mechanism behind the scenes.. parachuted
