In bright sunsine the case is made for the retention of Granville Rec in South Kilburn

Saturday's Action Day to Save the Granville Rec took place in glorious sunshine - so bright that I could not see the screen on my digital camera!  Despite that the video is worth listening to for Leslie Barson's passionate speech  in defence of the space. It is accidentally appropriate that much of her speech takes place against the background of the rustling of new leaves in mature trees as I was unable to focus on the speaker.

The space is in the centre of the South Kilburn regeneration and an oasis for nature and humans alike.

The day was attended by a cross-section of local residents and two of the Kilburn Labour councillors were there alongside two of the Green Party candidates in an atmosphere of community solidarity.

  1. South Kilburn community 12,000 plus are locked out of this 2010 renewed (as part of the regeneration) public open space by private take-over meanwhilers whose green lock-out ultimate objectives are unknown, but based on their previous record at Granville Centre Community Garden- its a developer site pending. So, pure election ploy.

Unlike the nearby 'nothing to see there' South Kilburn Public Open Space 2ha with woodland and even woodpecker this year! - which is open to everyone in the community 24/7 (as it always has been since the 1960's). Labour winning Westminster Council May 7th is crucial for this public parks protection, as it is SK shared with Maida Hill, Britain's most overcrowded neighbourhood with no park of its own. South Kilburn expected to surpass that overcrowding level by 2050.

A public accessible strong protected high quality 2ha park where population (car-free towered) is being overgrown- anyone doing politics, policy or decisions in Brent?
