Pressure to conform to the groupthink of the community forced them into the kneejerk my-homeland-right-or-wrong position which inevitably looks like a defence of Israel's regular and strategically-determined slaughter of Palestinians (or 'mowing of the grass' as one of their leading apologists described it). It's one thing for them to massacre innocent children and because a theatre decides it wants nothing to do with money from a country involved in war crimes, you dare to call anti-semitism. Self-righteous asses. Fed up listening to self-pity.Beverleynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2129943063330427887.post-80227754013553143972014-08-24T17:08:38.446+01:002014-08-24T17:08:38.446+01:00It seems that pretty much anything is anti-Semitic...It seems that pretty much anything is anti-Semitic, then. In which case we're all guilty as charged.

Tellingly, there's no mention in either comment above of the events which led to the Tricycle's initial action. Does this count as denial? The Tricycle's demands on the Festival were anti-Semitism pure and simple.

The Israeli Embassy has contributed a small amount for a few years, with full disclosure. This year it was £1400. The UK Jewish Film Festival took a principled stand against censorship and selective prejudice, because it wasn't just about the money.

The Tricycle asked to view all the films in advance of the festival, which it had never done before, in order to impose editorial control of the festival's content. Israeli film makers have long been contributors to the festival, so why why should the Embassy not contribute? Many of those Israeli films have been critical of Israeli Government policies, but the Embassy never seeks to impose censorship (and nor are they censored in Israel).

Films by contributors, Jewish and non-Jewish, are shown every year. Most films have no Israeli input of any kind, because it's the: UK Jewish Film Festival.

The Tricycle sought to close down expressions of Jewish thought, Jewish conscience and Jewish culture. The Tricycle's unique ultimatum and it's demands on this particular film festival are anti-Semitic.

(Criticism of Israel is not anti-Semitic. Demonisation is. Double standards are. Delegitimization is. The fashion for 'Holocaust inversion is also anti-Semitic, eg. 'Israel: Hitler would be proud of you', or 'Zionism = Nazism' etc etc. Anti-Semitism is not confined to jack-booted Nazis. The left is riven with it and quite frankly, it's sickening).

I would not have liked to be a fly on the wall during the Tricycle's discussions.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2129943063330427887.post-69302026975540832292014-08-22T20:34:42.076+01:002014-08-22T20:34:42.076+01:00One thing that struck me when the Tricycle was for...One thing that struck me when the Tricycle was forced to capitulate was that it was the threat of the withdrawal of finance which was the cause. The power of money, in this case jewish money. Antisemites have historically, and particularly in the last 200 years, attempted to rationalise their prejudice by reference to the supposed malign financial power of jews. Did it not occur to the people involved that their exercise of financial power against the Tricycle would feed that narrative? Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
