I can think of a fair few instances where the Glorious Leader went right over the top. For example.

This smacks of a witch hunt. And given that Cllr Duffy has been unselected for May, a totally pointless one, unless it's simply for the sake of sheer malice. Or, as a warning to others not to step out of line?

The CE can be a bit full of herself, as seen at the count in June. Surely the extreme emotional context of Grenfell makes the CEO's behaviour in pursuing Cllr Duffy both tasteless and graceless.
3. If it is, in fact, bullying surely precedent insists that Cllr Duffy is immediately awarded a payout in the region of £180,000.

Mike HineAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2129943063330427887.post-12200536366284134842017-09-21T18:36:15.141+01:002017-09-21T18:36:15.141+01:00Double standards!!!Double standards!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2129943063330427887.post-88688726733588638742017-09-21T17:35:05.824+01:002017-09-21T17:35:05.824+01:00I think yes and this is why the assumption the pub...I think yes and this is why the assumption the public has faith in local authority governance detailed in the judgement is falseAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2129943063330427887.post-46453116333154649152017-09-21T16:44:12.333+01:002017-09-21T16:44:12.333+01:00As someone who has made a "Standards" co...As someone who has made a "Standards" complaint against a Brent councillor in the past (June 2015), I was interested to read the decision notice above. I will not comment on the case of Cllr. Duffy, but the following paragraph in the notice did catch my attention:-

'In accordance with the Council’s complaints procedure, the Monitoring Officer carried out an initial assessment of the complaints and found that they fall within the scope of the Code of Conduct. Cllr Duffy’s emails clearly relate to Council business and ward matters and it is equally clear that he was acting in his capacity as a councillor.'

In the case of my complaint, the then Monitoring Officer apparently carried out an initial assessment, and claimed to find that none of the breaches of the Code I had set out 'fell within the scope of the Code of Conduct'. Yet they all clearly related to Council business, and it was equally clear that the person involved was acting in his capacity as a councillor (in fact, in his capacity as Leader of the Council).

The Monitoring Officer involved moved on to another Council in 2016, but I still wonder why no action was taken over my June 2015 "Standards" complaint, even when the facts were brought to the attention of Brent's Chief Executive and its Standards Committee, later that year.

Are the actions of some Brent councillors deemed to be outside the scope of Brent's Members' Code of Conduct, while similar actions by other councillors fall foul of it?

Philip.Philip Granthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08216646114377430489noreply@blogger.com
