And I never th...‘I always voted at my party’s call,<br />And I never thought of thinking for myself at all.’<br /><br />Plenty of politicians still singing those words!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2129943063330427887.post-10641358734027042032020-10-10T14:57:12.293+01:002020-10-10T14:57:12.293+01:00I was born in Paddington, but my childhood and par...I was born in Paddington, but my childhood and part of teenage years were spent in Kilburn.<br /><br />I had no idea at all during my childhood and teenage years in the 1970s<br />that for example, Saulsbury Road is named after Sir Thomas Salusbury.<br /><br />Neither was I aware that the newsagent shop I frequented during the 70s, W.H Smith is the name of the proprietor; William Henry Smith, whose family moved to Kilburn during the 18th century.<br />I actually appeared in a promotional video with friends in 1979 with the since disbanded band "The Jam" called "When you're Young." <br /><br />The video was filmed above the space where Kilburn square market is located; W.H Smith's is also about 100 metres away.<br /><br />I was 12 years old at the time and I was wearing a red and blue jacket ( I had more hair then too!!!) and it was filmed on a Sunday afternoon with my friends and all the members of the band.<br /><br />I recall Paul Weller expressing a reluctance to be filmed and claimed to be shy!!!<br />(I'm sure he was joking!!!)<br /> <br />The video was completed in the aforementioned park; and you can imagine how proud I felt to tell as many people at school the following day about it!!!<br /> <br />Here's a link to the video!!!<br />https://youtu.be/GO-3oXkZwPg<br /><br />Queens park is another place I went to with friends during my childhood; and again I was unaware that it was named in honour of Queen Victoria.<br /><br />I spent 5 years in Kilburn from 1975-1980 and I must say that though I feel disillusioned<br />by the way that the borough has been allowed to deteriorate by the local authority;<br />however, I treasure my time living in Kilburn during the mid 1970s.<br /> <br /> Trevor Ellisnoreply@blogger.com
