A new logo for Brent Council?

Brent Council has launched its new logo (below) which it says 'is more representative of the borough as it is today'.  The motto 'Forward Together' appears to have been dropped - which given recent events is probably inevitable.

However, I don't really think this is representative of the borough as it is today - I suggest the following would be more appropriate following the Council's closure of half our libraries

If you have any ideas for a new logo, please send a jpeg to mafran@globalnet.co.uk

  1. Maybe the new logo represents Brent - Going round in pointless, endless circles? Wonder how much that cost us?

  2. Is that the Best they could do?
A bit like the Olympic one and the horrible mascots - has anyone seen a kid with one of those?
    NO!

  3. The actions of Brent Council in every department is appalling. There seems to be an acceptance of bullying the community as a culture with the council. Classic examples are the libraries closures, and the Willesden Green redevelopment, but there are many many more. In a democratic society what actions can central government take when it is blatantly obvious that the actions of Brent Council are in direct contrast to the voice of the community? Does anyone know?

Brent Council is a branch of Central government, think of it like Banks where they have several branches all over the land.

Democracy is hardly a good for everyone when the 49% have to do everything the 51% want or face punishment (fines etc) Housing benefit caps for example are forcing people to move into different areas, this will change voting patterns and local councils.

It's no longer your money once you've handed it over.

  5. This is pretty much the epitome of stupidity. It would have been better if Brent residents had actually had a say in their logo rather than some penpusher who probably lives out of the borough picking a racing track as the logo. This is infantile.

The crest was professional and smart. This is shoddiness. I think Brent should do a U-turn on this.

Why would Brent residents have a say in Brent Councils logo?

  6. The arrogance of Brent Chief Exec AND the Council Exec never seizes to amaze me.

Think of all the promises made by the Labour councillors before the election and all the so called “community” consultations that have been conducted in the last 2-3 years. Note that all promises have been broken and the outcome of every single consultation ignored.

It is so patronising that all of these elected members and “community” employees (i.e. tax-payer salaried employees of the Council in the shape of senior council officers and Chief Exec) think that they always know what is best for the community.

With all the cuts in the frontline service and redundancies (however they choose to dress it up!), the council still manages to find floating funds to spend on a new logo presumably to go with the new White Elephant that is the new Civic Centre.

Would like to fire the lot of them – but, have to accept that this is a democracy in name only. So I am pleading with the Chief Exec (Mr Daniel) and the Council Leader (Mr Butt) to stop wasting tax payers’ money. You have to stop treating the council/community funds as if they are coming out of your personal bank accounts; and you have to start being directly accountable to the community!

And, please stop deflecting blame on to the central government for the mess you have made locally!

They're all getting paid with the money you volunteered to give them. Brent Council simply redistribute this wealth to its employees.

Local Councillors are referred to as "members of the council" not members of the public.

Making a complaint to a "member of the council" about the club who granted them membership and a salary goes nowhere. When complaint numbers rise, members of the Council fall into the shadows.

    2. Thanks Don. Gosh, your reply is so depressing!

It took some very painful experiences in recent years for me to understand how this SHOW of democracy works. Absolutely agree with your references to the CLUB.

By the way, I don't EVER remember "volunteering" to pay taxes of any description to anyone. Dare say this is true of every citizen of the borough!

  7. Announcing the new logo on the council's website at http://www.brent.gov.uk/home.nsf/news/LBB-1708 the council states ......

"The new brand has been developed by our in house design team so cost has been kept to an absolute minimum with only £2,000 being spent.

The first use of the brand will be on electronically produced letterheads, forms and report templates, so no costs will be incurred during the roll out".

As always, this is a grossly misleading statement. The point remains that all of the signage across the borough and the stationery will need to be changed sooner or later.

I would like the council to tell the community how much has been budgeted for this spend over the next 3-5yrs. And, every year in the Council's Annual Finance Report, I would like the Chief Finance Officer and the Chief Exec to account for the annual spend on this.
