Brent Labour councillor defects to Lib Dems

Welsh Harp Labour  councillor Dhiraj Kataria  has defected to the Lib Dems citing his problems with top down leadership in the Council, library closures and cuts in street cleaning.

This weekend Lib Dem councillor Reverend Clues resigned after two years spent in Brighton away from his Brent responsibilities. There will be no by-election because of the closeness of the 2014 local elections.

The Liberal Democrats will tomorrow announce their short list for Brent Central.

Swings and roundabouts.

  1. I thought the switch in parties had something to do with not being allowed to stand as a Labour candidate.

“Cllr Kataria recognises that the language he used in this case was highly inappropriate and apologised to the individual in question following the conclusion of this meeting.

“He will not stand as a Labour candidate at next year’s elections.”

    1. His deselection happened before that email exchange incident, the two were not related.

    2. Really? When did he switch sides?

  2. Is this the same Cllr Kataria whose evidence to a quasi judicial inquiry was described as 'inconsistent and lacking credibility'.

  3. Presumably it doesn't mean the LibDems will select him anywhere.

  4. Another sad loss to the People's Party and the hair dye industry.

  5. Another example of that rare oddity in nature, a rat who jumps on board a sinking ship.
