Gilbert and Davani now being paid through Brent Council payroll

Cara Davani with Cllr Butt, leader of Brent Council
Late yesterday I received an answer to my request to Brent Council asking if Christine Gilbert (Interim Chief Executive) and Cara Davani (Head of Human Resources) were being paid through Brent Council payroll.

There had been controversey because both had originally had their earnings paid into their private companies.

Fiona Alderman (Principal Lawyer), deputising for Fiona Ledden  (Directior of Legal and Procurement) said that both were on the Brent Council payroll.

Any chance of a statement from them 'clarifying' the previous position?
Was it, for example, because they were unsatisfied with the amount of tax they would have to pay if on the council payroll and were endeavouring to 'go the extra mile' by contributing a little more to the funding of health, education etc by having their salaries paid into their companies (which could then make greater contributions to a range of charities of their choice)? I think they should tell us, otherwise people may come to the wrong conclusions and think badly of them and there's quite enough cynicism about people in public life already.

Could we please have precise dates as to when both Gilbert and Davani went PAYE. Thanks.

They shouldn't be getting paid, as they shouldn't be there. One is a bully, who victimised and racially discriminated a member of staff, with nothing other than vindictive motives.

Her evidence in the tribunal said she wouldn't 'shout' at Rosemary because she was aware of her previous heath issues. Yet it was okay to:

suspend her for no legitimate reason

delve for evidence of wrong doing

stop her sick pay when she had medical certificates

continue with disciplinary proceeding which never should have bee brought about.

How on God's green earth these actions can be defended or justified. Yet to try and save face, the Council are spending money on an appeal.

Christine Gilbert and every other senior officer involved are equally to blame.

Now, now, it is ever so hard, having perjured yourself once, to keep the rest of the story consistent under pressure of being cross-examination.........

Why is someone standing in for Fiona Ledden? Has she resigned or been suspended

Resigned??? Suspended??? Chance would be a fine thing, most probably sunning it somewhere.

We can but hope! As we have found out from this case if she is suspended the council will tell staff she is on leave.

Now here's a thing I was thinking. How could Brent's Legal team not see that the evidence was well and truly stacked against them and they had no chance of winning the tribunal.

I am sure that fellow senior managers (not part of the cohort) read the judgement in disgust. Disgust that they are being led by unprincipled individuals who supported the HR Director in bullying and victimising a valued employee.

In answer to your question: maybe Brent's Legal team is not very good. Maybe Cllr Pavey could carry out another of his objective and independent enquiries into Ms Ledden.
