Brent Conservative Group call for independent inquiry into Brent planning process

Brent Conservative Group have tabled a motion for the September 18th Full Council meeting calling for an independent inquiry into every aspect of Brent Council's planning process:

This Council notes that our residents have lost confidence in the Brent planning system.
Residents tell us that consultations are mere public- relation exercises, that decisions are often perverse and some seemingly politically- motivated.

We note last year's damning report on the Brent planning service by PWC, and agree to hold an independent inquiry into every aspect of the planning process. This Council agrees that this is the only way that we can hope to restore residents' confidence in our planning service

This is long overdue pity it won't be able to reverse some of the idiotic decisions already made.

I think that many people agree with the post of Anonymous 10 Sept2017 at 13.02. There have been many completely crazy decisions made which then are used as precedents.
For starters Wembley Park is nothing like the original promise; Wembley High Road and the area behind Wembley Central is just going to be a crowded mess and what can we say positive about the latest round of development in Alperton - absolutely nothing - a good development put up a couple of tears ago which is going ri be impinged upon by much inferior developments which are bringing nothing to the area.

I hope that there will be a good and open debate on this motion at the Full Council meeting, but fear that it will be another occasion when the "block vote" of Cllr. Butt's Labour Group will be used to stop any independent scrutiny.

This is an issue which so many local people know is a problem. The only way that such problems can be addressed is by Brent's electors voting in a much more balanced group of local councillors at next May's Brent Council elections.

As a Brent Labour member, I really hope the party lose enough seats to force them to listen to residents and not vote as a "block". The success of the 2006-2010 Lib Dem-Tory council cannot be forgotten. The success existed from a requirement to listen to residents.

We need to see the butt of Butt.

On seeing the "back" of Cllr. Butt, there is a chance for this to happen IF the auditor dealing with objections from five local electors to Brent's 2015/16 accounts will issue a Public Interest Report. See my recent guest blog at:-
http://wembleymatters.blogspot.co.uk/2017/09/brent-council-and-cara-davani-something.html

The auditor now has evidence of a catalogue of abuses of power at Brent between 2012 and 2015, involving the alleged misuse of Council funds and actions which could amount to the criminal offence of "Misconduct in Public Office".

Those responsible need to be held to account, and as Brent Council itself would not investigate the allegations (some of which were handed to it "on a plate" several weeks BEFORE it made the disputed payment of £157,610 to Cara Davani, which could have been prevented) we have had to put the matter in the hands of the Council's auditor, to investigate whether that payment was unlawful.
