Avoid Wembley during November! Deep excavation works will close High Road east bound and have severe impact on wider area

Hot on the heels of my story about concrete blocking the main sewer in Wembley High Road LINK  comes a warning about major works resulting from the blockage circulated by Rubie Charalambous, Wembley and Ealing Road Town Centre Manager.

URGENT WORKS -High Road, Wembley - Blocked Sewer - Eastbound Road Closure 2/11/17 to 30/11/17

The Sewer on High Road, Wembley is blocked near the junction of Ecclestone Place and unfortunately deep excavation works are required to rectify the problem.

High Road, Wembley will be closed to eastbound traffic from the junction of Park Lane. Traffic will be diverted via Park Lane and Wembley Hill Road, a signed diversion will be in place for the duration of the works.

Westbound traffic will continue to use High Road, Wembley as normal.

The impact to the road network in the Wembley area is expected to be severe, especially in peak times. Where possible please avoid the area.
Unfortunately this period coincides with a number of events at Wembley Stadium although Spur's Real Madrid fixture at 90,000 capacity just squeezes in the day before the works start:

Oh well it will give footy fans (and others) a nice big handy urinal. It will save them weeing against people's houses and shop fronts and doorways. Perhaps Brent Council will get on with it and at the same time install a public toilet along this stretch.

  2. I note that the only local sites in the vicinity which are named on your map are JJ Moons, Nandos, KFC and Ark Elvin Academy. Does some criterion link these four noble institutions, Martin? What could it be?
All have strong links with multinational financial corporations? All refuse to seriously recognise trade unions? All employ people on short-term contracts? All 'require improvement'?

It's your map, Martin. Spill the beans.

    1. Simple. It's a Google Map and obviously reflects Google's values. All will enjoy the extraction of sewage during November...

Adds something to "popping out to JDs for a leisurely pint" doesn't it?
Hope that they don't open up the front shutter windows for customers to have a few breaths of good fresh air.

  3. Perhaps there will be a new song being sung by passengers in the static cars in the traffic jams ..... Instead of "pass the duchy from the left hand side" it will be " toss the jerry from the right hand side".

    1. As long as your song isn't interpreted by some embattled EU friends as either an invitation to violent aggression or, alternatively, an invitation to uninvited over-familiarity.

  4. Will be interesting how they re-route bus'es during this time, 182, 18, 92, 223. 224. 83 erm!!! for the whole month.

    1. I would imagine 18 and 224 via Park Lane and Wembley Hill Road. Others via Park Lane. Both junctions are likely to be very congested. Park Lane/High Road has the added issue of building works for the 'Twin Towers' on the site of the former Chesterfield House.

    2. Oh that means a good bus service to the Civic Centre then!!

  5. Why are'nt they looking at who caused the blockage, reported to being Concrete? Why are'nt they Thames Water looking at who caused this? and fine them. Either side there are two former office blocks that have been converted to flats. Surely the Developers must have caused this problem.

As there should be no problem with identifying which sewer feeder pipe has signs of contamination using modern technologies(as well as by eye)there should be absolutely no reason for the culprit not to be identified.
We must not allow them to get away with it.

    1. I do hope you're right, it's definitely something I want to know, epecially as a resident I am right in the middles of this. They should be named and shamed publicly.
