Cllr Shama Tatler, Lead Member for Regeneration, elected to Labour's London Regional Executive

Shama Tatler, Brent Lead Member for Regeneration, Property and Planning has been elected to  the London Labour Regional Executive. She alongside Izzy Lenga, an NEC member of the Jewish Labour Movement, will represent London Division 7, covering Barnet, Camden, Harrow and Brent.

Cllr Jumbo Chan was previously a representative of the Division.

Shama Tatler  was named  in the list of Women of Influence 2021 on The Planner, the website of the Royal Town Planning Institute. The citation read:

Councillor Tatler is passionate about planning and regeneration, and the role it can play in improving the lives of residents in Brent. She is very pro-inclusive growth. She is incredibly supportive of the staff, and also shares best practice amongst other lead members by speaking at events and working with PAS and the Local Government Association. She is a great role model, being young, female and BAME.

  1. Councillor Tatler is passionate about planning and regeneration, and the role it can play in improving the lives of residents in Brent. Well ask most residents in Brent and they will tell you about the role that planning and regeneration can play to seriously damage the lives of of Brent residents ! Huge tower blocks blighting what were quiet residential areas. No parking allowance for new developments so finding somewhere to park has become a free-for all ! I could go on but there's no point because Brent Councillors just don't listen to their residents

  3. Hopefully she won't be able to do much damage to Brent in this new role, she's done enough in her current Brent role. Being so Right wing, cosy with developers and with close ties to JLM; she will no doubt cross the floor so she can get a nice safe Tory Constituancy in the Shires - as a well deserved prize for what she has done supporting Tory Housing Policy over the last few years. It is quite obvious that come the next council elections she will be outed once the voters realise it is she (along with Butt) that has been behind the creation of Distopian Brent, better known as Rent City of Britain - with the poorest residents and the most expensive housing boxes.

Leaving Brent is the best thing she can do for our residents, and the sooner the better.

    1. But only those controlling the economy and taxation - the government - could have stopped housing becoming an ever-rising asset class, instead of something with long-term constant value.

The middle classes have voted for politicians that provided risk-free increasing wealth from merely owning property.

You cannot expect local politicians to unwind that.

    2. Brent Council contributed to property price rises in Brent by creating Regeneration Zones which inflate land values and push out businesses. There is land speculation going on throughout Brent, land owners are hoping their land will soon become a Regen zone and they'll make a killing. So, yes, local government can do something about local property prices can't they and Tatler is part of the problem. I wonder if land owners lobby these unaccountable councillors in private meetings?

  5. Anonymous 25 July 2021 at 19:00 - You obviously see the problem, but that doesn't mean Labour Councillors should support Tory Policy in such a enthusiastic way and pretend what they are doing is for the people of Brent. But then, she is part of the Pink Tory Party isn't she (Labour First).

  6. Coming from an immigrant background, illiterate parents, having 5 siblings and growing up in council housing, the idea that it is the responsibility of our Councillors and MPs to lift us out if poverty and house and feed us is complete nonsense to me. Stop blaming others for the failures of many of Brent's poorer communities. Many choose not to get involved in local issues unless forced to by events. It is by no meand an easy ride, and takes time, but hard work does bring success. We live in a wonderful country that offers many opportunities regardless of background. Good luck to Cllr Shama Tatler.

    1. So you're blaming poor people for being poor? Nice. And Tatler is joining a regional committee of the Labour Party which is hardly a heroic or selfless step. Setting up a charity or a foodbank... that would be impress me.
