Doubt that prospective Council Tenants will be rushing to live in the 73 New Council homes being built in Stonebridge by Higgins after seeing this. It beggars belief that they have been commissioned again in full knowledge of their failings at Granville.
The Council appears to lack the will to learn lessons, merely having a penchant for repeating mistakes ad infinitum.
In the 1980s the white flats on the Church End estate were plagued by chronic cold and damp. It transpired that the particular housing design had originated in a country with more temperate climate than that found in London, NW10!
Couple this with a ceiling heating system which resulted in massive heating bills for tenants - apparently, no one had let the hapless council into the secret that heat rises........
And then the fact that the original flat roofs were replaced several years later by pitched roofs - only the council had failed to specify that access to the roof voids (lofts) would be required. Loft hatches therefore had to be added later with all the inconvenience to residents that this entailed, and, of course, the bill footed by the folk with the deep pockets - aka you and me.
This is but one of many memorable examples from the memory of a former Brent Council housing officer, 1981 to 1989.........
Brent Council, hang your head in shame
