BRIEFING: New Brent Council wards for May 5th local elections. Check your ward and how many councillors you will have.

With the Brent Council election coming up on May 5th public knowledge of the new wards and the reduced number of councillors in some wards is fairly low, so this is an attempt to summarise the information. If you are unclear on which ward you are now in you can search by postcode HERE

Proposed polling districts/stations can be found HERE

There are now 3 wards with Wembley in their names as Wembley Park (Quintain?) ward is now separated from Tokyngton, Muhammed Butt's ward and Wembley Hill has been added. There will be some jostling for nominations in the 2 member wards by existing councillors at next month's selections, although I understand a number have decided not to stand in in May. It is likely Labour will seek a male and female candidate in 2 member wards such as Cricklewood and Mapesbury and Barnhill where presently 2 of the 3 councillors are male.

The present arrangement is 63 councillors of whom 58 are Labour, 3 Conservative, 1 Liberal Democrat and 1 Liberal Democrat. There will be 57 councillors after the election.

The new wards have been drawn up based on population projections for 2024, maintaining existing communities as far as possible and having a fairly equal number of electors per councillor. Beneath each ward I have given the number of councillors, 2018 electorate/projected 2024 electorate/projected 2024 electors per councillor.

  1. Fryent Ward, where I live, will disappear, and my part of it will now be in Queensbury Ward.

The prospective Conservative candidates for Queensbury Ward have been leafletting for a few months now. They certainly seem to have their sights on winning the three seats in May. Nothing from any other parties yet.

Sandra Kabir v. Kanta Mistry? It could be quite a fight.

What is the situation in the new Ward(s) where you live?

    1. Northwick Park Ward appears to being taken for granted by Labour with little or no visibility from campaigners diluting the excellent footwork by Cllr Margaret McLelland . Might existing Ward Councillors be knavel-gazing to see who among them will be selected before any real work begins? Also rumours that one sitting Councillor for Labour might stand as independent. There has been no real socialist footsoldier on the ground....

  2. I was also in Fryent ward and am now in Kingsbury (bit weird given how far away I am from the tube). I've had loads of leaflets from the Tories, though would rather write "None of the Above" and vote for that than ever vote Conservative.

  3. Edited comment:

Re Mistry against Kabir, now that really is a fight, it would be best for Brent if they both lost.

Just why are there no other parties campaigning in Brent besides the Tories?

As for Northwick Park Ward, is there a little bit of sarcasm in the comment? Surely Northwick will go to the Tories again if th Labour candidates are not campaigning?

Just why would any sitting Labour Councillor stand as an Independant in Brent and get bullied just as the Alperton Libdem has been?

Is it true that a Brent GP who stood as a Tory for three elections has now become a Labour candidate with Butt's backing?

Another rumour circulating is that at least two more of Butt's family will be standing, how many will that be then, 7? 8?

What pay rise will Butt's lot give themselves as a pay rise if they win?

If the Tories or Libdems win, will they put the handbrake on tower blocks?

If the Greens win, will we get a proper Climate Policy?

Which high profile Labour councillors might lose their seats? Mclenan, Tater, Nerva, Southwood? They all have a lot to answer for in Brent, and are not well liked by their electorate, and don't have particularly safe seats.

  4. Tatler is losing her ward, but could stand in its butt end, now called Kingsbury.

  5. Rumours that McLennan is exiting the stage undefeated.

  6. Should axe one councillor from each ward across the board. Is there anywhere all 3 pull weight?

  7. South Kilburn Corporate Land Colony/ TBZ is very much outside the democratic mechanism as detailed here as it is also outside Kilburn Neighbourhood Plan.

A New England-led South Kilburn for project Global Britain, of high tax take (tribute for simply living in the UK)- no social, health, shared services towered zones (a social rent estate level and up/ tower, level and up/tower again and again as of such poor quality flood area build). A zone where no one is or ever can live a UK citizens life, health and wellbeing chances- this by government design.

If you don't believe me then study the Inspector modifications to the Brent Local Plan and South Kilburn to 2041. Party, party, party...

  8. To add, please also look at Article 4 (1) Directions published by Brent in July 2021 which includes a SK Inset Map of at least some of the red-line box's colonialist horrors.

Horrors (no more in the Planning Inspectors modified Brent Local Plan of Jan 2022), with Brent South Kilburn mono-colonial-overdevelopment zone new plan to build on current land uses such as South Public Open Space woodland, Granville Road Public Open Space, Kilburn Park Foundation School, Carlton Vale Infants School and Dickens Austen Public Open Space.

This all comes into effect 1st August 2022. So, Levelling and UP South Kilburn Developer Party,Party,Party or NOT?
