Rumours that had been circulating for some time were confirmed today when at the end of a 30 minute Cabinet meeting, Council Leader Muhammed Butt, announced that Cllr Eleanor Southwood was stepping down as a Cabinet member and returning to the backbenches.
A potential successor had been named to Wembley Matters but no confirmation was forthcoming after enquiries were made. There is always the possibility of sharing the portfolio amongst the remainder of the Cabinet or a reshuffle at the Labour Group AGM.
Cllr Southwood was considered one of the most able of the current Cabinet with a command of the detail of her brief and a strategic approach to its development.
Another one fed up with the way Mo runs Brent???
ReplyDeleteSad to see her go
ReplyDeleteCllr Southwood was considered one of the most able of the current Cabinet with a command of the detail of her brief and a strategic approach to its development.
ReplyDeleteYou are joking aren't you? Or is that the rest of them are so very, very bad? That must be it.
Just browsing Twitter this morning and noticed a Brent Council Twitter string about Cllr Southwood's resignation, it was almost all about Cllr. Butt as usual LOL, what an egotist.
ReplyDeleteThen there were items about the building of flats at the Cecil Avenue site - This is what Cllr. Butt Tweeted "This is great news and look forward to the delivery of the new homes. Keeping our commitment to build the homes that people so desperately need and deserve.", at least he's stopped saying that they are Council Homes for Brent people, The implication was that they were Social Rent Homes, they never build Social Rent Homes now, only unaffordable homes to the average Brent residents. Cllr Georgio is right, it is social cleansing of our average Brent residents.
One of the responses to the Cecil Road development Tweet hit the nail on the head, or should we say tells the truth about the Council's lies as in: "152 over priced affordable home and 152 private sale"
Then there are the PR photos of that councillor advertising the Community Skips telling us how Brent is somehow a better place for them. Or Cllr Dar boasting about "Amazing Generosity: My friend Seema Sarwar donated 2 properties worth £2 million to the Imam Khan Cancer Appeal last night at Royal Nawab London with her Solicitor Accountant and 500 guests present." I say it's all right if you've got it! It is also probably a much smaller donation as a percentage of income than most give on a day to day basis. Is this Cllr really a Socialist? Unlikely isn't it.
Cllr Southwood may be known for attention to detail but she certainly didn’t share the detail when she sent out the glossy leaflets advertising her plans to build homes on so called brown field sites.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she will be joining the Libdems to secure her council seat next time around.
