Statement regarding the fatal stabbing that took place today (25/08/2026) at Brent Civic Centre from Wembley Park ward councillors.
Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the parents, family and loved ones of the deceased following this deeply distressing incident at the Civic Centre in Wembley Park.
We cannot begin to imagine the pain and heartbreak the family are experiencing at this terrible time. Our thoughts are also with everyone affected by this tragic incident.
We will do our best to share information as we receive it, and we hope to engage with the wider local community after this tragic loss when appropriate in the coming hours and days. Please reach out if you have any information or are distressed by the events.
We are still awaiting further information from the police, and the Civic Centre remains a crime scene and has been cordoned off while the police investigation continues. We ask everyone to respect the cordons and allow the police to carry out their work.
Following the incident, a Section 60 order has been authorised, granting officers enhanced powers to stop and search people and vehicles. This applies to the Wembley Park, Barnhill, Tokyngton, Stonebridge, Roundwood, Dollis Hill, Willesden and Welsh Harp ward areas of Brent.

It’s a very tragic event that a young life has been lost in such violent circumstances. May this young man rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteMay I ask the councillors why do they feel the need to add a phrase in Arabic to their statements? How is that fair and democratic, from someone elected to represent the whole community of Wembley Park? Using a language that not everybody understands? Not only that, it’s apparently a quote from the Quran (according to google). Whatever the meaning, the personal religious inclinations of an elected councillor should not find their way in official communications. Could you imagine the uproar if a Jewish councillor were to add to an official statement a quote in Hebrew from the Torah?
I agree with this comment. A religious quote in Arabic seems out of place in this statement to me.

For the innocent victim and family of what has happened, I feel so very sorry.
Do not use this tragedy to get on a pollical soap box about Gladstone Park! This could have and does happen any where in London.

It says, 'Indeed, to God we belong and to Him we shall return'. it was included as there were strong rumours sweeping through the Somali community yesterday that the victim was a Somali of the Muslim faith. Those rumours, since the naming of the victim by police, appears to have been mistaken and I have removed the quotation. I am sure Brent people of many faiths will be offering prayers for the young life lost yesterday.
