Brent Council reviews the first week of the Wembley Triangle/High Road closure

A Brent Council briefing on the first week of road reconstruction at Wembley Triangle gives a overview of progress and some of the problems they faced. A particular issue was the number of utility closures or restrictions on nearby roads

How could they not know that there were old tram lines there - what about old records and all the surveys they've done there over the years???

I think they don't know things such as this because of a lack of interest in the local history of the borough.

Trams were running up the Harrow Road from Paddington as far as "The Swan" in Sudbury from the early 1900s until the 1930s, when they were replaced by trolley buses. And you would think that with all the Council's focus on Bridge Park, they would know that it started life as the Stonebridge Tramway Depot, serving that route!

It was the same when they had contractors working to reconnect North End Road with Bridge Road. The work was delayed, and cost more, because of an "unknown" pedestrian subway.

That subway was designed by Wembley Council's Borough Engineer and Surveyor, as part of the works to construct Olympic Way, ahead of the 1948 Olympic Games, and replaced by the wider Bobby Moore Bridge subway, designed by Brent Council's Engineer and Surveyor in 1992/93.

Ignorance of the borough's past can be costly for Brent (and its Council Taxpayers) in the present.

Walked past road works in Ealing Road near Stanley Avenue this morning - lane closed and three way traffic lights with not a single person there doing any work to sort out the issues - meanwhile our side roads are getting battered by speeding drivers.

How do we find out what these traffic orders will mean for us local residents...

"Brent Council has proposed traffic orders for Wembley Stadium events throughout 2025"

Glad to see the council got an handle on the road traffic enforcement. However local pedestrians are now facing increasing traffic from motorbikes and cyclists on the narrowed pavements. Particularly the walkway linking Wembley Hill Road to Juniper Close. Motorcyclists in particular are not dismounting and tuning off their engines. This leads to intimidation as the are in patient to pass pedestrians and is increasing carbon monoxide intake.

This needs similar attention as given for motorists including signage, fines and enforcement.

Local residents should not have to put up for this until May 2025
