Not a convincing statement by Cllr Butt is it? Did he actually say anything of substance other than, (reading between the lines), he likes to build flats for non-Brent residents and therefore gentrify our Borough. As in Neasden, Chinese investors are being shown round the proposed redevelopment site there, the same in Old Oak. Just go to Rent City (Wembley Park) and try to find people who've lived in Brent before moving there.

"...gentrify our Borough". Development seems to be a dirty word these days. The borough needs investment and development. It needs people who have and can spend their money locally to support the local economy.

The borough has to be open to new businesses, development and new people. It will not prosper or improve otherwise. This is good for local people too. Times change.

As a resident in the borough for over 20 years, I have witnessed an increase in crime, littering, fly-tipping and antisocial behaviour (to name a few issues). Many good residents (who contributed to the area) have moved out.

Well done to Brent for welcoming and allowing development (yes, quality of some of the new developments has been a problem, but hopefully this will be better addressed moving forward).

Of course the hard work, efforts and voice of existing communities should not be ignored, but I don't see how retaining an old empty building will best serve the people (old and new) of the borough today. Their work and achievements should however be acknowledged and carried forward to any new development in some way. It would be wrong for there to be no lasting legacy or benefit (and I am taking about to/for the black community in the area).

Interesting that the council had £2m to spend on the Wembley Library refurb but can't afford refurb Bridge Park.

The Centre will actually move from its present site under the Council's plans, to a new position to the south of the overall Bridge Park/Unisys site. The plans will have to be redrawn if it were to be refirbished where it is. It is part of a much larger development the council are calling Hillside Corridor which involves the two curved Unisys buildings and other buildings on Hillside - the present adult edycation building on Tybridge Way and the Altimira Villa. There was an exhibition late last year. See the review here: https://wembleymatters.blogspot.com/2024/11/bridge-park-consultation-exhibition.html

Don't forget that Labour run Brent Council gifted multimillion pound developer £17.8m of our CIL money for their vanity project steps outside Wembley Stadium - that money should instead have been spent on vital local community projects 😡

Be great if site can be listed and not lost, incorporated into the new builds without destruction ....they created it, this pioneering community

The Bridge Park building was a disaster. It had a heating boiler system which meant that if you wanted to heat one room for a meeting you had to waste energy to heat the whole building. Over the year it was the Council who had to pump vast sums of money into it. The so called Community raised very little to towards the annual running costs. It was an useless old building totally suitable for its intended use. While the Labour Leader struggles to express himself the Labour Councillors have made the right decision.

No one said development was a dirty word besides you. You do not deny that Gentrification is being attempted, while other areas descend into visible poverty due to property prices in the area. The Borough hasn't opened for business, it is though being forced out to make room for new residents who don't shop locally. How is pushing people into poverty good? yes, during the Labour Council's tenure, things have got bad, with litter and crime being major issues. I not you acknowledge the poor quality of much of the new housing, and after 14 years it hasn't improved. Old empty buildings, like the industrial areas. If you mean Bridge Park aka Unisys, who's fault is that? Whose legacy ? Legacy for the Black community, pull the other one, they are being deleted from the Brent memory.

Definitely a misuse of the term gentrifying here. The gentry may own a tenanted tower speculation or two packed into a population growth zoned, but the gentry would not live such harsh zones of no public services infrastructure, no car, no garden, no space, no assisted living, poor build quality, no plan....

Gentry would live in an actual gentrification area legal protected/ conserved from massive population growth and welfare state infrastructure enhanced and invested in year on year.

Blinking YIMBYs don't care about anyone but themselves, and as long as it's not in their backyards.

B~ent is the YIMBY capital of Britain where current resident views are despised by the council.

"Spain is planning to impose a tax of up to 100% on the value of properties bought by non-residents from countries outside the EU, such as the UK.

Announcing the move, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said the "unprecedented" measure was necessary to meet the country's housing emergency.

"The West faces a decisive challenge: To not become a society divided into two classes, the rich landlords and poor tenants," he said."

So when will the UK wake up and stop foreign investors buying UK properties??? Developers are building to meet the needs of foreign investors rather than building proper homes for families 😞
