Almost half of Brent Labour councillors missing from tonight's Labour Group Meeting

In what might be seen as an indication of a collapse in morale, the Brent Labour Group meeting this evening was barely quorate.

The defection of Rajan-Seelan to the Tories, rumours of other defections, continuing anger about  the candidate selection process and deselections, plus poor polling on the doorstep, have all contributed to a high level of dissatisfaction amongst Labour councillors.

Presumably there were some vital issues to discuss ahead of next Full Council on Monday November 10th given the financial situation of the Council and the potential cost to the Housing Revenue Account of the repairs that have to be done in response to the Social Housing  Regulator's adjudication. In addition there is now the cost of complying with Awaab's law that gives tight guidelines on dealing with mould and other health issues in social and council housing.

After thirteen and a half years of Mo Butt's leadership the things he has neglected are coming home to bite Brent Labour!

Those deselected by Tatler, why would they attend? Then those that were newly selected? Most don't have a clue and have only been Labour members for a few months. Finally, many of the current, to be retained, are only bothered about themselves and their status. The question is, will Brent Labour dump Butt in 2026? Seems quite likely as someone else has started to provided patronage.

Years of mismanagement is now to be seen, residents will no longer have wool over their eyes.

COUNCIL PLANNING - A MASSIVE DISASTER Euros was an absolute shambles all at the councils doorstep! They failed to keep secure area ‘X’ (Wembley Way) as they didn’t know if they owned it! Caused Brent to be a worldwide laughing stock!

HOUSING - UNSAFE we were promised that the council learnt lessons after they spent 18m repairing homes they bought (more than they bought the homes for), nothing changed.

PAVEMENTS - BROKEN following consistent underinvestment, new reporting system means most things are characterised as medium priority and there is a real postcode lottery if your defect is selected for “possible repair”

ROADS - CRUMBLING NO RESURFACING, NO LINE MARKINGS, following the so called “data led” approach

CLEANING - FLYTIPPING AND LITTER HAS SEEN AN EXPONENTIAL INCREASE after changes to collection and street cleaning, there has been a clear increase in flytipping and litter as well as paan spitting, not to mention the new blue paper bags which are always flying around and sometimes bin men have been seen emptying the contents of them into grey bins!

PARKS - LET TO ROT after walkways falling apart, broken litter bins not being replaced, trees rarely planted, and the failure to maintain awards that our beautiful parks once had.

There is no achievement to be celebrated. This has now moved to damage control and residents of Brent must now move swiftly to make their voices heard.

Rats? Sinking ships? Time for change in Brent is long overdue

Are deselected Labour Councillors still paying their monthly levies to the Labour Party from their Councillor's pay? Some of them are still getting extra Special Responsibility Allowances. The Levy is deducted from their pay directly by the Council and paid over to the Brent Labour Party/Council Group. Around £100,000 in total per year for their Election Fund. That amount of funding certainly helps to win elections.

As far as I know the deselected (apart from Rajan-Seelan) are still in the Labour Party

Reform will NOT win any seats in Brent.

If you look at the new Index of multiple deprivation for England published yesterday. Brent 034A is a sub-division of South Kilburn that is ranked as being the 8,415th most deprived area in England, that out of a total of 33,755 such sub-divisions.
Picture 034A's literally rotted away unmaintained only children's playground facility in its pocket park between two 16 storey social rent large panel system towers and you wonder just how bad conditions are for children outdoor play in the other even more deprived 8,414 brownfield zones of England? The scale of this abuse must be truly massive and to what social purpose?

Over a year in power now, with a should be powerful 140 majority. Yet, a government with a majority of just 1 managed to get us all Brexit done.... its about will and political passion. Brent Local Labour ran out of socialism a very long time ago.

Of course Reform will, they simultaneously appeal to both conservatives and traditional Labour voters. Their economic policy of reducing income tax thresholds so more people are brought out of the tax system to help the poor, alongside abolishing inheritance tax, which will help the middle classes is an obvious winner. Likewise reindustrialisiny the country into prosperity. If you can’t see how that isn’t appealing when faced with the beige of labour, conservatives for the past twenty years. Whilst our only other choice the lib dems still haven’t reflected on how to distinguish themselves from labour or conservatives and make themselves liberal again, especially after the errors of the coalition, what choices do you think people have. One positive is Zack Polanski is appealing to disillusioned leftists, by being a bit more bold, but it’s labour their killing. Reform appeal to diverse demographics too, all of which are aghast at the issue with the boats especially after their families worked hard to contribute to this society.

Today’s poll
1. Reform - 32%
2. Greens - 17%
3. Others (tories/labour) 16%

Labour needs to stand down for Greens or they let Reform in.

Council by election from another part of the country this week. Reform unsuccessfully defend a seat - who wins? Lib Dems:

Bromsgrove, Worcestershire
Reform was unsuccessful in its attempt to keep hold of its seat on Worcestershire County Council for the Bromsgrove South division.

A by-election was sparked following the resignation of Reform councillor Gaynor Jean-Louis, who was elected earlier this year.

The marginal seat was expected to be a close call amid growing backlash over a 10 per cent tax hike Reform-controlled Worcestershire County Council is currently consulting residents on.

While Reform landed in second place, it was the Lib Dems who saw victory in the by-election.

The full results:

・Lib Dems - 1,416 votes

・Reform - 911

・Conservatives - 309

・Labour - 92

The turnout was recorded at 30.3 per cent.
_______
And of course we have a Brent example from earlier this year in Alperton: Lib Dems win with 46% - Reform come last with just 8%. So despite all the Farage hype the message from these is very clear.

What is to be noticed about that is it needer greens to step down. The national polling for lib dems also means they should be stepping down for greens to stop reform in brent

the majority of labour councillors in Brent barely achieve the basics, as many just want to be Councillors so they can brag to their friends and family and most are neither capable or fully aware of what being a Councillor means and how to do the job, not just show up for the odd meeting and photo call and collect the £££s

How very true
