LETTER: Q: 'When is a Brent Council fire door, not a fire door?' 'When it's ajar and they will only be "in touch" within the next 7-10 days!'

In fact it is the front door - both fire and security.

Dear Wembley Matters

You recently posted on Brent Council's plans for dealing with problems in social housing. Included was: "Emergency hazards (for example, dangerous electrical faults, damaged external doors or windows, or major leaks) will be investigated and made safe within 24 hours."

One of the external doors in Gorefield House in South Kilburn has been damaged (and reported) for some time. (see photo) Since nothing has happened, I went online and reported it again this morning. This is the email I have just received from Brent Housing Management:

"Dear PETER FIRMIN,

Thank you for contacting us. Your query has been reviewed and passed to the relevant specialist team to look further into and they will be in touch with you within the next 7-10 working days. Should you need to follow up on this case, please contact us by replying to this email."

I am sure Pete will be delighted to know that the council have now 'fixed' all their fire safety issues, as was reported in their response in the Regulator's Report. So Pete might need to tell the council that their claim is false?

Thanks. More BS from Brent. How can they possibly have fixed all their fire safety issues when it was only this week that contracors came to examine our doors to see if they are compliant with fire safety. And, incidentally, propose they are all replaced.

"As of the 1st September, the council confirmed that all outstanding fire risk actions in all of the high rises had been satisfactorily addressed". Ref:- Point 4.2 'Response to the Housing Regulator findings & Brent Graded C3 Report'.

Find out who the officer responsible to the Building Safety Regulator is for this door.

Towerblock Tatler was, and she knew that Building Regulation Inspections were failing!!!!

90's South Kilburn Estates nearly all estate block doors were immobilised. 25 years of regeneration on, there is certainly way less accountability and responsibility as zoned-in population is grown.

Brent Council wrote: Good afternoon Martin, thanks for bringing this to our attention. Our Housing team has confirmed that the door is a final exit door rather than a fire door. A contractor will be attending later this week to reinstall the door closer, which was broken off and is preventing the door from closing properly

Well, with Cllr. Donnelly Jackson in charge, why should we expect any change to Brent's terrible management of our housing stock?

So much for Brent's comment, reported by Martin on 18 November, that they would repair it by the end of the week. Nothing has been done.

Still dangerous for residents to have this door left open.
