Volunteering opportunities to help London's green transition

We’re excited to reveal that London National Park City has launched an interactive volunteer map and directory, highlighting volunteering opportunities across the city's 32 boroughs. The map - which has been co-created with the input of over 100 individuals and organisations (many in the charity space) - is still under development, and will receive regular updates and evolve over time.

Volunteering is a crucial accelerator in the National Park City movement and London's transition to becoming a greener, healthier, wilder city. The map aims to serve as a go-to resource for those seeking to give back to local initiatives, fostering community engagement and supporting the important work of not-for-profit organisations across London.

We invite you to take a moment to explore the map and encourage you to share it with your network. The page includes a form to submit any new volunteering opportunities you may have.

Fresh air, healthy activity and useful work at Welsh Harp Centre on January 18th

You are invited to join me for our next Friends event on:
Saturday 18th January, 10.00am – 12.30pm

Each month a great group of individuals come together to do extremely useful conservation and maintenance work around the Centre using basic gardening tools, to gain skills and meet new people. This work supports the activities of the Welsh Harp Environmental Education Centre including over 3000 school children that attend the Centre each year and improves the biodiversity of the woodland habitat.

What will be the tasks at the next event?

• Rehabilitating a model river teaching space
• Other tasks as they come up

What else do you need to know?

• All welcome! Young people aged 17 years and under need to be accompanied by a responsible adult, each individual child under 11 years old will need an adult with them at all times as we are using sharp tools. 
• Tasks can be adapted or alternative tasks available for all levels of involvement.
• Tea, coffee and snacks, steel toe cap wellington boots, tools and gloves are all provided. 
• Wear comfortable outdoor clothing suitable for gardening.
• Please meet inside the Education Centre.

Foraging & Volunteering Special Event April 14th Welsh Harp Education Centre

April 14th 10am-12.30pm 

The Friends of Welsh Harp Environmental Education Centre are a group of volunteers that meets one Saturday morning every month at the centre. They manage the habitats in the area and all activities focus on improving the natural habitat of the 15 acre woodland for biodiversity and ensuring that the outdoor teaching spaces are safe and exciting for the thousands of school children that attend the centre each year.
This month we are combining volunteering with a foraging walk where the urban forager, Michael Stuart, will be hosting a walk for our volunteers to discover edible woodland herbs. We will then continue with some practical work in the woodland.

At the upcoming event we will be working on the following tasks:

-          Gaining skills in foraging with Michael Stuart, the urban forager

-          Pathway clearance in the woodland

-          Moving a few small logs across the woodland if time permits

-          Other tasks as they come up

Booking is not essential but it would be good to have an idea of numbers for the walk.

All welcome! Under 16’s need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided.  Please meet inside the education centre.
