Great turnout at consultation event for new Welsh Harp SEND 16-25 provision and continuation of the primary school environmental study centre

There was a significantly larger turnout than might have been expected at the Consultation Meeting about the proposed SEND 16-25 Facility at the Welsh Harp Environmental Education Centre (WHEEC) on Wednesday. Attendance was higher than many of the consultations held for multi-million regeneration projects, showing how important the Centre and the SEND provision is to local people.

People crowded into one of the WHEEC classrooms to see the 7 panels outlining the plans.  I was gratified to see the primary classrooms and separate toilet facilities for primary school pupils in the draft floor plan for the new building. The continuation of an environmental studies facility for primary school pupils was something that Brent Green Party members, Brent Friends of the Earth, Brent Parks Forum  and many individuals had campaigned for. It is so important for a new generation that will be faced with climate breakdown and  the biodiversity crisis. PETITION HERE

Conversation was animated and questions detailed over issues such as the horticultural features, potential loss of mature trees, parking, security and more.

Aside  from building design is the devising of a strategy for a sustainable future for the WHEEC and plans for community use and shared building management.

Brent Council has kindly provided a copy of the Display Boards below so that those unable to attend can study them and submit their views:

Depending on your broadband speed the boards may take a while to download:

Have your say on health provision in Brent on September 3rd

To book a place or ask a question email brentccg.engagement@nhs.net

Young people have been missing in many of the  recent consultations on health as have parents of young children. It is really important that you have your say.

Brent Clinical Commissioning Group sent this message with the poster:

We would be grateful if could please share this information with your family, friends and community associates as we would like as many of those Brent service users and local residents who have not yet attended one of our Health Partner Forums to come along and enjoy an evening of debate and discussion about health and social care in Brent.

You will be able to share your views on health and care services directly with the clinical, social care commissioners and service providers who attend the event.   There will also be opportunities to work with us on transforming healthcare across some of the priority areas for people in Brent for the forthcoming year.

We need to know numbers attending in order to confirm numbers with our caterer for the hot buffet supper.  Please therefore either call us on 020 8795 6107 or 6122 or send us an e-mail to either of the following:

Leading environmentalist denounces Brent Council in resignation letter

Francis Henry, who has voluntarily supported the Brent Sustainability Forum, latterly as chair, for 6 years has resigned in protest at the sacking of one of the key environmental officers at Brent Council.

He has called on other members of the Forum to join him in  resigning and to consider making the forum website LINK independent of the council.

His letter to acting Chief Executive Christine Gilbert says:

CONSTRUCTIVE DISMISSAL  MARION HOFMANN
I  have been the Vice Chair initially and subsequently the Chair of the Brent Sustainability Forum (BSF) since 2008.
Together with others we have worked hard to help Brent Council to deliver on important environmental issues. We always had great support from Marion who was truly dedicated to the cause.
I and others are appalled how Brent Council and your senior officers have treated one of our colleagues who has contributed so much to public engagement and the promotion of environmental issues.
It would seem that as an organisation Brent Council and some of your officers in Environmental Services will do everything possible to get rid of good and trusted officers who understand how to work with local people and who are truly committed to the cause.
I am so disgusted by the conduct of Brent Council and the conduct of your senior officers that I am resigning as Chair of Brent Sustainability Forum and ceasing my involvement with anything involving your Council.
You and the whole Council should be ashamed in the way you treat your valued members of staff who have the trust and respect of the local community.

Council MUST extend Council Tax Support consultation deadline

With just one day before the closure of Brent Council's consultation on the Council Tax Support scheme, the Council has only just this afternoon sent out notice of the consultation to Forum and Panel members,

Clearly this is not long enough to consider the quite complex issues involved and with such inadequate publicity and notice the Council must end the consultation.

Any other decision would reveal the consultation as a travesty.
