New replacement 'Super GP Surgery' to open in Wembley Park providing space for 16 GPs from March 2024

Quintain yesterday announced a new GP ‘super surgery’ to open at the heart of Wembley Park. When operational, it will be the largest NHS GP practice in the borough of Brent, serving up to 25,000 patients.

Quintain said:

The 11,000 sq. ft space will be operated by Wembley Park Medical Centre, relocating from Wembley Park Drive to Humphry Repton Lane close to Olympic Way and Boxpark Wembley, a 10-minute walk from their old premises.

The build will create state-of-the-art general practice medical spaces including two clinical suites, 14 consult exam rooms, four treatment rooms, and an e-consult room. It has been designed with a double height reception and waiting area into the ground floor of the Repton Gardens residential development at the heart of Wembley Park.

The announcement of the NHS super surgery is a significant milestone in the delivery of the Wembley Park neighbourhood, which has been planned from the start to provide all the community facilities everyone needs within easy reach.

The surgery will be delivered by Quintain as part of the Repton Gardens development, designed by architects The Manser Practice, a team with award-winning experience in the healthcare sector. The surgery will provide enough space for 16 GPs and is set to open to the public from March 2024.

Good to see new facilities and social infrastructure being delivered

All we need now is to find 16 GP's to work in it, easier said than done I have a feeling !!

Great news. Very good Doctors and Nurses at this practice, but the Receptionists and Admin Staff are rude, unhelpful, and have no people skills. Where is the parking? where are the patients going to park if they have disabilities?

Details of parking at the new surgery are included on the Wembley Park Medical Centre website.

Following-up on the three comments above:

Yes, it is good to see such social infrastructure being provided as part of Quintain's Wembley Park development, and not before time! There are already thousands of new residents in the apartments and student accommodation that Quintain, and other developers, have built on the former BEE site over the past 15 years.

The medical practice moving here has three GP partners, and presumably some other GPs and trainee GPs who also deal with patients there. But yes, the new Medical Centre will need to find some more GPs to work there, especially as the Wembley Park Medical practice will presumably be bringing all of their existing patients with them, so that the new facilities do not mean extra GP services will be available for the growing number of Wembley Park residents.

A good question about parking and disabled access, Jaine. I will write to Quintain's "masterplanner", and see if I can get an answer.

Patients attending the surgery at the new location will be seriously affected by event day traffic, particularly when bus routes are diverted.

And still we wait for the long-promised `medical centre', the `flagship' of South Kilburn regeneration. Years late, in the meantime one of the surgeries supposed to move into it has gone completely, while the building housing another cannot be used any more. No news on whether it will eventually be of the size promised, and no information to residents/patients as usual. Luck Wembley!

All smoke a mirrors in a PR exercise?

They already have over 10,500 patients - where are they gonna recruit all the extra GPs from to cope with over 25,000 patients?

What madness to open "largest NHS GP practice in the borough of Brent, serving up to 25,000 patients" so close to Wembley Stadium - imagine how busy it will be in that area on event days - even if you can park near the surgery when taking vulnerable patients you won't get there coz of traffic and road closures.

Mainly students and young professionals, weekday accommodation and Airbnb who are unlikely to use GP service which means massive profit for the practice contract holder.

Events are usually on Saturdays when gps are closed. People can also walk to their gp.

PARKING at the new GP Super Surgery (at 2 Humphry Repton Lane) from March 2023:

Further to the comments above, I have received the following information from Quintain's Head of Masterplanning and Design:

'There are two designated disabled parking bays on Harbutt Road. One is immediately next to the new Wembley Park Medical Centre and the other is adjacent to The Yellow.

The bays aren’t yet shown on Google Maps but if you use the what3words mapping app they are located in the following positions.

https://w3w.co/kind.passes.test

https://w3w.co/undulation.pops.those

As with all disabled parking bays they operate on the basis of displaying a blue badge permit.

The Civic Centre underground car park is also nearby.

The overall site is well served by public transport and cycle parking is available outside the medical centre.'

This is the information on parking from the current Medical Centre website, referred to by Anonymous (13 October 2023 at 11:17) above:

'Wembley Park has parking available for visitors.

Please be considerate when parking and ensure you review all parking restriction rules.

Drop off bays are located next to the practice but these are for drop off only. Please note Wembley Park area has its own traffic enforcers that will tow or fine cars if not adhering to parking restriction signs.

Disabled parking is available with a number of disabled parking slots available in close proximity to the new practice.'

To summarise: there are two disabled parking bays close to the the new medical centre, but they are for general use, not just for disabled patients.

There will be a drop-off bay next to the medical centre.

Blue badge holders can also park for free at the Civic Centre underground car park (about 200 metres from the medical centre, via Elvin Gardens). Other cars must "pay and display" there, £2 for up to 1 hour, £5 for up to 2 hours. (The other Wembley Park car parks are further away - again with minimum charge of £2).

Illegal parking in Quintain's Wembley Park area risks a fine of £100.

Bet none of the 16 GPS will be full time!
