Brent Council is consulting on the siting of 43 Cycle Docking Bays across the borough following concern about the problems caused by poor parking of Lime Bikes.
They say:
Brent Council is working to improve cycling facilities to encourage residents to adopt active and sustainable travel. By promoting cycling, the Council aims to enhance public health, reduce traffic congestion, and improve air quality throughout the borough.
The cycle hire bay, which has the capacity to store eight bicycles will allow users to rent or return the bicycles at any time.

Since Brent Council raised concerns and called for measures to tackle the issues related to the careless abandonment of Lime bikes in various locations throughout Brent, I have observed a reduction in the number of bikes left unattended on Chalk Hill Road. It remains uncertain whether this decline is indicative of effective intervention by Brent Council. However, I am confident that the implementation of Cycle Docking Bays, if approved, could significantly mitigate the problem that has escalated since Lime Bikes emerged as a popular mode of transportation.
The new cycle bays will mean the loss of parking or loading bays though.
Ecclestone Place Loading Bay is one that is being suggested to convert to a Lime Bike Docking Station, I do hope the genius who thought this was a good idea has also thought of how all the Restaurants and Shops around the Triangle and High Road will get their goods delivered when there is no where to park for delivery as outside of their shops/restaurants the road is marked no loading or waiting anytime? and the newly appointed NSL Parking Wardens are extremely diligent in issuing tickets.
Thank you, Martin, for posting this. Brent should explain why residents local to the proposed sites haven't been informed of this consultation. Looking at the 2 close to me (Coventry Close and Cambridge Avenue) I see one is described as `next to a block of flats' where there is no block of flats. How serious is that.
I wrote asking why this was the first we had heard of the survey. I got a response telling me that people within 50m of the proposed site were contacted. That is a ridiculously tiny distance. No-one lives within 50m of the proposed Coventry Close site, but it affects many.
Today's e-newsletter from Brent Council contains an item about this survey/consultation. The first that anyone further than 50m from one of the proposed sites has been informed of this by the Council. With 2 days to go!
The Oakington Manor Dve site is problematic. An hotspot of Anti-social behaviour. Plagued by motorcycle delivery drivers zooming over the footpath on O.M.Dve without checking or stopping for the many children, disabled etc. Terrible 6.p.m. onwards. Scores of electric bikes, motor bikes every half hour. Waiting for a fatality. No more cycles should be attracted to this area..
The proposed implementation of the e-bike parking bay at 9 Oakington Manor Drive Wembley. While I understand the need for more sustainable transportation options, I believe that this particular site may not be the most suitable for such an implementation.
The area in question is already known for instances of anti social behaviour and introducing an e-bike parking bay could potentially exacerbate these issues. It's important to ensure the safety and well being of the community, and I fear that this problem may inadvertently create more problems than it solves.
Is it possible to consider other locations that might be safer and less problematic? Maybe locations with better security and less fewer issues with anti social behaviour.
