Saturday's Action Day to Save the Granville Rec took place in glorious sunshine - so bright that I could not see the screen on my digital camera! Despite that the video is worth listening to for Leslie Barson's passionate speech in defence of the space. It is accidentally appropriate that much of her speech takes place against the background of the rustling of new leaves in mature trees as I was unable to focus on the speaker.
The space is in the centre of the South Kilburn regeneration and an oasis for nature and humans alike.
The day was attended by a cross-section of local residents and two of the Kilburn Labour councillors were there alongside two of the Green Party candidates in an atmosphere of community solidarity.

South Kilburn community 12,000 plus are locked out of this 2010 renewed (as part of the regeneration) public open space by private take-over meanwhilers whose green lock-out ultimate objectives are unknown, but based on their previous record at Granville Centre Community Garden- its a developer site pending. So, pure election ploy.
Unlike the nearby 'nothing to see there' South Kilburn Public Open Space 2ha with woodland and even woodpecker this year! - which is open to everyone in the community 24/7 (as it always has been since the 1960's). Labour winning Westminster Council May 7th is crucial for this public parks protection, as it is SK shared with Maida Hill, Britain's most overcrowded neighbourhood with no park of its own. South Kilburn expected to surpass that overcrowding level by 2050.
A public accessible strong protected high quality 2ha park where population (car-free towered) is being overgrown- anyone doing politics, policy or decisions in Brent?
Do you have the petition? I can gets lots of signatures. I know there were concerns about the loss of green space and bio diversity from the beginning of the re development (social cleansing, in my view) of South Kilburn.
Former Granville 'community' garden has the piling going in and is site in April 26. This new meanwhile garden private lock-out on Granville Road Public Open Space is likely cleared as a developer new site by November 26. In Brent Local Plan this land is defined as a site allocation. The SK Masterplan public invested in it in 2010 as part of the final Masterplan, but this was at lower planning tier from what the Brent Local Plan/ Re-Plan now wants. Labour leadership in ambiguity.
Money for private meanwhile land takes, but non for existing SK parks maintenance and investment as green spaces protected and open to all. There are more public owned but already enclosure fenced small green spaces in SK to meanwhile lock residents out of over the coming years. Three SK children's playgrounds removed from these is Brent further helping out private developers.
What happened to equality of rights to green spaces access near homes? Car -free (car ownership denied) tower rent flatted zones are being planned as being nature access denied and welfare state infrastructure denied by the Reform policies political consensus towards 2050.
Bleak new South Kilburn Tower Wall.

Thank you
If this clearly well funded kitchen garden was happening in a Brent owned public open space located in Queens Park conservation area, it would be open to all local people.
Because its South Kilburn Not, its not open space for local people and is private captured and a public lock -out.
A new concept of public closed space, until its built on later on this year that is. Incurious councillors, incurious candidates too.
Given that Granville Road Public Open Space was green invested in in 2010 by Brent Master Developer as part of being the final masterplan for South Kilburn. Its subsequent ongoing public lock-outs and Brent Local Plan brownfield site allocation, are proof that Brent Growth zones have no final plans and are instead permanent developments of 'the worse the better'/ neighbourhood denial. Permanent precarity and overcrowd zones being the objective.
If the Greens broke with generic Brent strategic plans where funds go to MCAGA (Make Conservation Areas Great Again), this Local election would become way less cosy.
Kilburn Tower Wall needs its 60 years old 2ha park, Brent Kilburn needs its only remaining park major protected and major green invested in.
Bristol is launching events this summer to mark itself as the civil rights capital of the UK. Brent events like this public open space public lock-out seem to mark Brent as the civil wrongs capital of the UK.
