As well as the usual Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat candidates both the Green Party and Reform are standing a full list of candidates in every Brent ward for the May7th local election.
In addition there are Independent candidates in Barnhill, Kenton, Preston, Stonebridge and Wembley Hill wards.
There is also a Workers Party candidate in Stonebridge ward whilst former members of the party are standing as Independents.

Thank you for sharing all of the nomination lists, Martin!
I see that you are standing for the Green Party against Muhammed Butt and Krupa Sheth in Tokyngton Ward. Good luck!
I'm pleased to see that existing councillors Kathleen Fraser and Sunita Hirani are standing as independents, rather than for parties that have treated them so badly. Good luck to them also.
I find it hard to believe that Reform UK have found enough local people to stand candidates for all seats in all of the Wards in Brent. Are people so gullible that they fall for the image that Nigel Farage tries to sell? Perhaps they think that wearing a Reform rosette will put them in positions of power, as that Party currently tops national opinion polls?
But Reform's support is on the wane, as the mess they are making at Council's they won control of in last year's local elections becomes apparent. In diverse communities like Brent, I'd like to think that the "Hope, not Hate" message which prevailed in the recent Gorton and Denton Parliamentary by-election will win through, and that we won't see any Reform UK councillors here after the 7 May elections.
Those are some of my personal views. Whether you share them or not, please vote in the elections on 7 May, for whoever you feel would represent your Ward the best!
just anything but labour please and I’ll be happy, left right I don’t mind just can’t have another 4 years of labour please.
This is a serious Green Party, standing a full slate in the elections. Well done to them for the level of organisation to achieve that. Go get them tigers 🐯
Challenge these parties will have around Reform is that their candidate list is notably very diverse from their name list. Might it mean we get political discourse based around policies than this lazy “everyone I disagree with is racist or far right”. We shall watch and see.
🏆 Diversity league table
(name-pattern analysis):
🥇 Labour – ~65% diverse / ~35% Anglo (most diverse overall)
🥈 Reform UK – ~60% diverse / ~40% Anglo (diverse but clustered)
🥉 Conservative – ~55% diverse / ~45% Anglo (balanced mix)
4️⃣ Green Party – ~45% diverse / ~55% Anglo (slight Anglo majority)
5️⃣ Liberal Democrats – ~40% diverse / ~60% Anglo (most Anglo-leaning)
📊 Based on surname patterns in Brent candidate lists – indicative only, not actual identity.
So there are 8 Independents:
Only one of them looks like a serious political figure. Kathleen Fraser in Barnhill the former Labour councillor and Deputy Mayor who’s fallen out with the party mentioned in the other blog (thank you).
After that, it drops off quickly.
In Stonebridge you’ve got James Rossi, Ali Javed and Asif Zamir. They’re running a very local, anti-Labour “vote for your neighbour” type campaign. Zamir calls himself an activist, but beyond that there’s almost no real background. It feels more like a neighbourhood slate than anything resembling a structured political campaign.
Abi Odunsi has a small trace through a local petition, which at least shows some community involvement.
But the rest, like Nadia Klok Rasheed, are basically invisible. No profile, no statements, no track record you can find.
If you are there independents, tell us about yourself, or have the editor interview or share about you please.
Candidates with the same surname
Patel — 22
Ahmed — 5
Sharma — 4
Singh — 4
Brown — 3
Johnson — 3
Georgiou — 2
Hopkins — 2
Thomas — 2
Khan — 2
Mistry — 2
Mehta — 2
Nerva — 2
Butt — 2
All other surnames — 1 each
If we take the Patel’s, they are split across all political parties. So if the election goes the way of the extended patel family, the outcome in Brent based on Patel representation will be:
• Conservative: ~40%
• Reform UK: ~30%
• Labour: ~15%
• Lib Dem: ~10%
• Green: ~5%
It is a concern there is one candidate with the surname Green, but he is Reform, not Green. That is a missed opportunity for Greens.
Wow Keith Perrin is a pretty major defection from Labour to the Greens with some serious experience for The Green Party to have on their team when they gain election with their full slate https://www.kilburntimes.co.uk/news/local-council/22018557.brent-council-cabinet-member-resigns-role/
Anything but Labour & the Greens in the Brent please, nothing personal Martin but the leader of your party is a lunatic, it won't reflect in these elections but when the General Election will come round the Greens will lose all the seats that they are going to gain in these local elections. As for Labour I'm not hopeful that they will be ousted from Brent completely but certainly they will have a much reduced Council majority after May 7th here in Brent.
Where did all these Reform come from? Haven’t seen one canvassing
Its been offered but martin tends to refuse interviews as hes pushing his joke of a party everywhere he can.
Because apart from two they are paper the only really hard worker after he was selected, withdrew to become independent, no point getting into a battle with paper soldiers, reform aren't a threat in brent. Vite local if you want real representation.
I think the number of reform candidates shows they are not on the wane but on the up. I would expect them to be the overall winners across the country on election day
I haven't seen any Reform canvassers either, but I did get a letter delivered today, addressed to me personally, marked "confidential", but with nothing on the envelope to show who it was from.
Inside was a "personal" letter to me from Nigel Farage, as well as a generic local government elections leaflet for Reform UK, claiming that they have 31 per cent support in national opinion polls, with no other Party to more than 20 per cent.
"Nigel" told me what a great guy he is, who only has the best interests of Britain at heart, and that Reform UK is the only party that can deliver the change I want to see for our country.
If I could be bothered to reply, it would be with a single word: Bol***ks! In my view he is a commander, in the deep pockets of US far right "so -called Christian" nationalists, crypto currency and fossil fuel interests.
Reform may have targeted me as a potential supporter, as an older white male, but I certainly won't be voting for any of their candidates, and I hope that you won't be either.
Glad to see the Greens are running in every ward, they'll certainly have my vote in Queensbury. If Sandra Kabir was running again she would've had one of my votes, though.
To Anonymous10 April 2026 at 22:24 - such prejudice in your comment - you cannot and should not judge a persons colour or ethnicity based on their names!!!
Green Party Leader has earned my respect today being very vocal about the horses being murdered by money grabbing trainers, jockeys and punters at multi billion pound horse racing events like the Grand National Meeting!
Yesterday a horse broke its back jumping a fence but still the jockey whipped it to get it over the finishing line and then it had to be put to down. Can you imagine the pain and fear that poor horse suffered??? Yet the jockey got no penalty for animal cruelty!
And today another horse also died jumping a fence!
It's barbaric and needs to be stopped - it's is not sport it is animal cruelty!
💯 anyone but labour. Some time away might help them get some policies.
Just because they don’t know what a woman is, doesn’t mean we have to listen to them. The hope with green is that aside from the completely bat stuff, we might have brent taken care off a bit better. Thought their leaflet today just says “bigger bins”. I thought they had an event creating policy and all we got was bigger bins and bulky good collections. Was a bit disappointing
I note that only Philip Grant has used his name in above comments. It would help if others with strong views also used their name and cited sources for any allegations. Thank you.
The nature of surnames, is yes of course you can guess where their origins are from. The study is called ‘patronoymica‘ and there are many books you can buy on surname origins. If someone has a ‘Mac’ as a prefix, you can guess with a high probability they have Scottish origins. This is not ‘racism’ it is called being educated.
According to all these addresses, Reform are local. They have to either live or work here to stand.
Anon -19.39 Except of course if it a woman's married name/cf Suellla Braverman
What happened to Cllr Ihtesham Afzal who quit Labour to join Corbyn’s ‘your party’? Unless I am missing something I can’t see any ‘your party’ candidates. Not even a workers party, or SDP option.
Martin is the only person in the whole of Brent to let us know what is going on in the whole of Brent. He has platformed many political parties on here, and does well to allow competing views. If he wants to use this space he has built to let us know more about the Greens, and even his candidacy against Cllr But, that would be very much welcomed
What about those who live in 'blended families' from different ethnicities or religions??? A surname taken on due to marriage or adoption might be very different to the surname someone was born with!!!
And going back into history what about the slaves who ended up taking their slave owners surname because their own identity had been stripped away from them???
He hasn't lived here for years
Can’t help myself commenting here…. Who has been taken as a slave in London? If Zack Polanski can revert to his indigenous name from Dave Paulden, then so can you everyone 🤦♀️ Vote green
To those saying “anyone but Labour”, no thanks. Many of us value the multi-racialism of Brent. Reform would destroy that. And who can forget the record of the Tories and Lib Dem’s in government. Green or Labour for me.
I have to apologise for an error in my comment above about the letter I received from the Leader of Reform UK. I submitted it on my phone, and predictive text "corrected" some of what I had written.
I spotted that his name had been changed to Nigel Garage, but failed to notice that I had supposedly called him a 'commander', when I had actually typed that in my view he is a 'conman'.
It is interesting that Green candidate for Northwick Park, Keith Perrin, was mentioned above. It is believed he resigned from Cabinet over disagreements with Cllr Butt over a number of issues including Green Bins and Barham Park, bullying was also mentioned to some allies. Keith Perrin then joined a group intending to replace the dictatorial and bullying Cllr Butt with a left of centre councillor, none other than one Mike Pavey. The group trying to replace Cllr Butt included: Mike Pavey, Sarah Marquis, Mili Patel, Matt Ketcher, Tom Miller and unsurprisingly, the wannabe leader Neil Nerva. What strange bedfellows indeed, but the right wing members of the group have all played a blinder, now being the lynchpins of Cllr Butt's current Dictatorship. Butt even took in the divisive and destructive Shama Tatler, against the advice of many.
11.April.2026: what slaves? You talking about when Henry VIII sold into slavery many of the British population?
Did you read this:
📊 Based on surname patterns in Brent candidate lists – indicative only, not actual identity.
Reform is multicultural, look at their candidate names. Who will likely be our next reform mayor is a muslim woman. I bet you’re not though.
Do we have a potential Green council leader in him?
When Labour lose in may, people will be celebrating in the streets like in hungary
Anon 12 April 2026 at 21:03 - you obviously don't know Keith Perrin very well.
Cllr Anton Georgiou will be the leader of a Lib Dem Coalition for Brent Council.
Will they go Green, or prop up Labour?
Can someone please explain why someone who has been known as Councillor Rajan Seelan (a Labour Councillor for most of the last 4 years until deselected and then defected to the Conservatives) suddenly starts calling himself Rajan Arasu-Seelan for this election. Is he trying to hide his true identity and hope that local people do not recognise him as one of the three invisible and useless Labour Councillors elected for Wembley Central in 2022?
To 'Anonymous 13 April 2026 at 21.29' on Tory party leaflet we received he's down as 'Rajan Araseelu' - does make you wonder?

DEFINITELY SHOULD VOTE MARTIN IN
I really appreciate of how inclusive a debate Martin allows on WM. And with that WM exposes well an overall indifference, fatigue and lack of curiosity as to why Brent is failing better most of its tenanted residents, and how Brent bad growth London faces a very bleak future. Quite literally an othered London borough zoned-out and zoned-in.
Rven allowing for 50 of them being paper candidates just so they can say they fought every seat as other parties have too, the amount of wasted votes this time will be horrendous.
