Wembley Central resident warns of scooter delivery danger on the High Road pavement

Wembley Central resident Jaine Lunn has written to councillors, council officers and the Town Centre manager, drawing their attention to the problem of scooters using the pavement in Wembley High Road:

Dear All

On Saturday 19th September around 2-3 pm I counted 22 delivery scooters parked on the pavements outside KallKwiK nearr Nandos, and outside Al-Pasha Supermarket, close to the bus stop.  Aside from the fact there is no respect for Social Distancing, Covid19 rules, I witnessed several pedestrians being forced to jump out of the way at detriment to their own safety as these drivers collect their deliveries, jump on their bikes, start their engines and drive several metres along the pavement before accessing the road.  As a pedestrian with no mobility problems it's like an obstacle course, and for those who have mobility issues or people with pushchairs it amounts to the Council and Police abandoning their duty of care to the public.

There are 2 loading bays in the immediate vicinity of this location, outside Uncle ('Twin Towers' to you and me Ed) block, and then again outside nos 410 to 402 High Road, is it not possible to force them to park there?

In the absence of Serco/Enforcement unwillingness to challenge these idiots, it is against the Highway Code to drive on the pavement, and I seriously question how many of these Take Away Drivers have read it, or that they have taken the required CBT test or that its valid.

I did call the SNT/Police as it was so bad but no one turned up.  As I walked back home I noticed a BMW parked on the pavement just east of the Traffic Lights, outside Cerabau Romanesque.

Would you please take action against the huge number of Take Away Scooter Drivers, persistently parked on the pavement and DRIVING on the pavement, as a matter of urgency regarding public safety.

I have photo's and video as proof (See photographs above)
regards
Jaine Lunn

Brent BMX Club is a volunteer-led club for the local community. Established as part of Access Sport’s BMX Legacy Programme (www.londonbmx.co.uk) and supported by Brent Council we are looking for anyone who would like to get involved in BMX or willing to help out at the clu.

There are  three tracks at the Barnhill/Chalkhill open space for bike and scooter users to enjoy.
Please note that some club sessions may take priority at certain times.

BMX track

The BMX track design has been created to suit all abilities of riders from beginners to experts as all obstacles are 'rollable', meaning not so confident riders can roll over each obstacle and still carry sufficient speed for the next.
The nature of the obstacles and angle of the berms allow more experienced riders to carry further speed and negotiate the obstacles in a number of different ways.

Family cycle trail

The family cycle trail is a 'Green Grade Trail' based on the International Mountain Bicycling Association's (IMBA) grading of routes and trails.
The difficulty level of the proposed trail equates to 'Leisure and Easy' and is built to IMBA Standards for Green Grade Trails.
The family trail snakes its way around the field with boulder stones placed to add features to the trail and help create a natural segregation from riders and pedestrians.
All aspects of the trail are integrated into the exiting land forms as much as possible for example elevations and deviations of the existing parkland.

Scooter track

The scooter track consists of small low obstacles linking from one to another.
There is a low start hill to allow riders to gain sufficient speed to negotiate the obstacles along the track.
The entire scooter track is finished in asphalt to allow a smooth finish for the small wheeled scooters and bikes.

Chalkhill kids get on their bikes as school invests in cycling

With safe cycling in Brent under scrutiny at the Brent Cyclists hustings tomorrow I though it  might be worthwhile to look at some positive things happening on the Chalkhill Estate.

Chalkhill Primary School has used 'Healthy Schools' money to buy bike and scooter storage:

There are two of these covered bike racks with helmet storage

Sustrans have used their police connection to get some unclaimed stolen or abandoned bikes for the school and the school has spent a grant of £2,000 to buy 10-12 bikes for use by children without bikes.

The teacher in charge has trained in Cycling Profiency and there train chldren and others. He works with Sustrans on bike safety and there is a Dr Bike safety and repair service.

Cycling Club runs before school every Wednesday. Children can use the large playground to improve their skills and control before other children arrive, The children who attend have named themselves the 'Bike-it Crew',

The school runs a special Bikers' Breakfast with a free breakfast, film and other events.

Cycling is also integrated into the sports and PE curriculun with children taking the bikes out for on and off road training.

Meanwhile 5 minutes up the road from the school additional cycling facilities are taking shape. The children were consulted by the designers of the facility which consists of a BMX track, family cycling track and a scooter course.
