Brent Liberal Democrats have launched an e-petition calling for local people to have a voice in Wembley National Stadium Limited's bid to run more large events at the stadium:
We the undersigned petition the council to Consult and to Listen to concerns of local residents and businesses about the impact of increasing the number of "Large" Events at Wembley StadiumPlans for the new Wembley Stadium were approved in 1999 with a limit of 37 Large Events per year. A few years later Brent Council allowed an increase to 46 Large Events per year. The Stadium owners have now applied for planning permission to increase this by another 8 to 54 Large Events per year.
Large Events at the Stadium have a major impact on the lives of local people and business - especially when as many as three events are held on 3 successive days.
We call on Brent Council (jointly with representatives of the FA) to carry out an extensive public consultation with Brent residents and local businesses on the social and economic impacts of Wembley Stadium Large scale events before the Planning Application is considered by the Brent Council's Planning Committee.
We believe that local people and businesses have the right to be properly consulted and informed about these possible changes and for their views to be assessed and documented before any decision is made.

I've lived in the area for 54 years & as much as I'd love to sign the e-petition it's going to be a waste of bloody time! I agree about 'holding the Council to scrutiny' & opposition Councillors have to show that they are doing this but we all know that the decision has already been decided & Labour Brent Council will just ignore peoples concerns & allow the extra events to take place.
Every public consultation is a waste of time with this Council. The sooner stupid people who keep voting Labour in realise this the better! So I won't be signing this e-petition as there's more chance of me having an audience with the Pope than Brent Council even thinking about rejecting this proposal.
Let Labour Brent Council allow more events, more tower blocks, cut our road sweeping services etc etc, eventually the time will come that even they will be voted out & people will finally see that they have been the worst run Council for us residents in the last 40 or so years! Just when that time will come no one knows, let's hope at least we'll all still be alive to see it & to celebrate it!
Did I not read on this blog that Brent Council are not interested in a consultation regarding this matter?

Rather than venting you anger here please sign the petition and object to the planning application on the Brent Council website - if no one objects properly you are just playing into Brent Council's hands 😞
Brent Council might not be but Wembley Stadium should offer this option.

When Tottenham Hotspur applied to play their games at Wembley Brent Council organised public consultation meetings where residents could express their concerns. That was just a temporary change whereas the new proposals:
1. Extra 8 (from 46 to 54) Large Events
2. Changing "small"(and therefore unrestricted) events from 51,000 to 60,000 capacity.
Will have a permanent impact.
Many issues were raised by residents during Tottenham considerations to which Brent Council responded to.
I recall that the issue of inadequate or broken Event signage was mentioned and the Council promised to provide new electronic signage. I do not believe that the promised improvements were delivered yet.
Residents also questioned why restrictions start as early as 8a.m. in the morning for evening Events. The Leader of the Council assured residents that enforcement only actually starts 3 hours before the stated starting time. By implications this means that if an event is due to start at 7p.m. no PCNs (parking tickets) should be issued before 4p.m. (unless there is also a normal CPZ (controlled parking zone) operating in the area.
Most residents might not be aware of this as it is not officially stated anywhere and only a verbal confirmation from the Leader of the Council.
There is a justified case for Brent Council and the Stadium to hold a consultation meeting on the latest proposals. After all the Stadium presented their case to the Brent Council leader and Chief Executive and claim that their presentation was "well received" so why not present the same to local people impacted by their proposals and listen to their views?
