Letter: I am not willing to jump into a pond for Lime Bikes

Dear Editor,

I found a Lime bike thrown in the pond at Barham Park. See above photo. I tried contacting Lime but all contacts expect you to quote a plate number and I am not jumping into pond to read it.

Shame that Brent Council decided to still allow them to operate in the area.  They appear to be dumped everywhere around the borough. Perhaps more residents could send photos of this.

Just goes to show what idiots ride these bikes, haven't a care about other people or wildlife.

I have asked the Council to remove it and charge Lime for the cost of doing so.

Brent's Glorious Labour Leader promised to sort out the mess with the Lime bikes. Mess created by Labour Councillors who entered into a pathetic contract which allowed the users of Lime to do as they pleased. Councillors Butt and Krupa Sheth, responsible for this fiasco, clearly failed as the Lime bikes continue to be a nuisance for residents across Brent. Either Lime or Butt/Sheth should go - or possibly all 3 as they are responsible for this cock up.

You should be able to report direct to Lime. My view is that any provider should have a ‘contact telephone number’ for problems to be sorted. It should not be made complicated for us.

Cllr Lorber has had this message: Councillor Lorber

Thank you for your report of 3rd January 2025.

Lime are arranging for their ranger team to visit and to retrieve the bike.

Of you report to Brent rather than Lime it helps Brent understand the problems we face

Line bike is still in the pond today 😡

Surely the lithium battery will leak and pollute the pond which had fish and newts in it!

Why can't Brent Council staff remove this from the pond???

Yes the bike is unfortunately still there as of 3p.m. this afternoon. There are no permanent Council employees working in Barham Park. In any case as everyone knows the bikes are very heavy and if Brent instructed its contractors to remove them the cost would fall on local people through our taxes. Lime bikes are the responsibility of Lime. They control and monitor their bikes remotely and it is they who should deal with and pay for these types of issue. The initial Lime contract entered into by Labour Councillors was clearly poor and resulted in a lot of problems in our streets. It is only few weeks since the Labour Leadership claimed credit for their tough stance with Lime which promised improvements. This incident simply highlights that problems with Lime are clearly not over and that Councillor Butt and his team have not delivered a workable service that avoids nuisance to residents and our Open Spaces.

Stop making this a political issue!!!

The Lime bikes are not that heavy if kids can pick them up and ride them - no more excises just please get this bike removed from the pond before the wildlife are all poisoned.

It's such procrastination by Brent Council that has lead to the decline of so much local wildlife!!!

What's happened to the two "Friends of Barham Park" groups???

Can they not organise getting the polluting bike out of the pond between them?

Lime with a touch of ice today. Bike still on pond and now frozen over. Am I right in thinking its not just a Lime organisation problem. Aren't Brent contractors meant to maintain the park, clear rubbish and clean and clear the pond at regular intervals. Not that they do clear the pond but aren't they meant to. Can anyone clarify this.

So ridiculous - how much money are these people getting paid to do NOTHING???
