Last night's Brent Council Webinar on Covid19 vaccination
Monday, 25 January 2021
A Brent resident undecided about the Covid vaccine? Attend this webinar tonight.
Aware of wariness about the Covid vaccinations from some residents and particularly concern over low take-up in the BAME community, Brent Council is putting on a special Webinar tonight.
This is the announcement from the Brent Council website:
Residents who want to know more about the COVID-19 vaccine are being invited to a free webinar to get answers to their questions.
Taking place on Monday, January 25, between 6pm and 7.30pm, the free session will enable participants to separate the facts from the fiction and gain a better understanding when it comes to being vaccinated against COVID-19.
The session will include a panel of community representatives and a local Doctor and will be hosted by Cllr Promise Knight, Brent’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Engagement.
”Thousands of people in Brent, and more than 3.5million across the country, have already chosen to take up the vaccination against COVID 19, but we know some people are wary of it,” said Cllr Knight. “Others have adopted a wait and see approach, and obviously this is about personal choice.
“But be under no illusions that the number of COVID infections, hospitalisations and deaths remains worryingly high and residents need all the facts so they can make their own informed choice when the vaccine is offered to them.”
Dr John Licorish, Deputy Director of Public Health Brent, will give a presentation about the COVID 19 vaccine at the webinar that will also include a panel of community representatives.
These will include Alton P Bell, Senior Pastor at Wembley Family Church, who grew up and attended schools in Brent and is a qualified Industrial Chemist, IT specialist, theologian, church leader, writer, mentor and community activist.
Dr Musharraf Hussain al-Azhari, will also be on the panel. Chief Executive of the Karimia institute, he has a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences. After twelve years as a scientist he decided to dedicate himself to developing Muslim communities in the UK, studying, teaching and writing twenty books and more than three hundred essays.
Atara Fridler will also be a panel member. She has been the Director at Crisis Brent Skylight since April 2016, overseeing the delivery of services to over 500 people who are either homeless or faced with homelessness.
Residents can sign-up to attend the webinar online by clicking here.

Mass Covid19 NHS Vaccination Centre to open in Wembley Park next week
The former Network Homes HQ (test centre is entrance is round the corner from the main entrance)
A large scale vaccination site in Wembley Park is to be opened by North West London NHS at the former Network Homes headquarters in Fulton Road at the corner of Olympic Way. The building is awaiting redevelopment as the new site for the College of North West London.
The NHS Vaccination Centre will open next week to vaccinate people aged 80 and over abd health and care workers.
Brent Council said:
The large-scale site in Wembley is capable of delivering thousands of the life-saving jabs each week and offers a convenient alternative to GP-led and hospital services that are already set up across NW London.
Letters are being sent to people aged over 80 who live up to a 45 minute drive from the new centre, who have not already been vaccinated, inviting them to book an appointment either by phone or online through the national booking system.
People should wait until they receive their invite letter and should not call their GP but use the booking line, when their invite arrives. If an appointment has already been offered by the GP, please keep this appointment.
More Vaccination Centres will be launched in NW London in the coming weeks to increase the numbers of people who can be conveniently vaccinated each day.
The NHS vaccination programme, the biggest in the health service’s history, is being delivered as health service staff are treating record numbers of seriously ill patients with COVID, caused by rapidly rising infection numbers.
Please don’t contact the NHS to seek a vaccine, the NHS will contact you. When you are contacted, please attend your booked appointments. And whether you have had a vaccine or not, please continue to follow all the guidance to control the virus and save lives – that means staying at home as much as you can, and following the ‘hands, face, space’ guidance when you can’t.
Invites to book at the centres are being sent to people aged 80 or over who have not yet been vaccinated and live within a 45 minutes’ drive from the site, with more sites opening in the coming weeks.
The letters will explain how they can book a slot over the phone or online through the national booking service, and NHS leaders are urging people not to turn up at the centres or try to book without receiving them.
The new vaccination centres will each be capable of delivering thousands of vaccinations each week, scaling their operations up and down according to vaccine supplies and demand.
People who book in to a vaccine centre should note marshals will be on hand to help people to the right place. Bookings are staggered to allow social distancing and please don’t arrive until five minutes before your appointment time. Travel information will be available from Monday at www.tfl.gov.uk/jabs

Barry Gardiner concerned about potential vaccination delay in Brent care homes
Yesterday Barry Gardiner, MP for Brent North, in the House of Commons, raised the issue of potential delay in vaccinating people in Brent Care Homes
Barry Gardiner:
Mr James Canning became our first octogenarian in Brent to receive the vaccine earlier this week. While congratulating him and the Wembley Practice team who delivered it, does the Secretary of State share my concern that care homes in Brent have been advised that the 970 doses that are in the vaccine packs cannot be split because of the licensing conditions, meaning that those in our care homes who are over 80 may have to wait until February or for the Oxford vaccine before they get vaccinated? Is that the case? If so, why? That is hardly the “protective ring” around care homes that he promised.
Matt Hancock:
I am glad to say that we are making significant progress on tackling this issue. When the hon. Gentleman says it is a licensing concern, that should not be read to imply that it is some bureaucratic rule; it is about ensuring that things are done safely. If the vaccine is not delivered safely to the site, it is not an effective vaccine. Therefore, we are taking it carefully to be able to vaccinate in care homes. There has been some vaccination in care homes across the UK, so it can be done, and I hope we can make good progress soon.
