Magnificent speech by Glenda Jackson who represents parts of Brent as well as Camden. The section of her speech on the state of schools and classrooms back then absolutely ring true to my experience as a teacher at the time. Unfortunately schools like Copland are experiencing the same kind of conditions now.

I couldn't agree more. With most of Brent's schools opting out of local control to access cash otherwise unavailable, council-managed schools like Willesden High had kids sitting in freezing classrooms in the early 1990s working in their coats and scarves. Well done, Glenda, for reminding the Tory scum and the wider world of the havoc wrought by Thatcher's policies.

I wish she spoke like that about things of importance to her constituents today - she is invisible as an MP
Not a great fan of my MP, but well done her for sticking her neck out with this speech, knowing she would get shouted at by the Tories who will only accept that Thatcher was a saint.
Wrote the above before that pompous git Baldry got up after she spoke saying people should only be allowed to say nice things about Thatcher.
I'm told Glenda got over 900 emails within 24 hours thanking her for the speech.
it was three to a book when I was doing GCSE History due to Tory education policies then in the late eighties and in those days you couldn't get pages photocopied.
